BOOK OF THE COMMON
Time Capsule 19892016

Sindelfingen the ‘small big city at a crossroads’,
where the premium cars of the world are produced,
and where the IT industry of the digital age is at home.
Art in a ‘world city’ ambiance, publicly shunned,
without a suitable infrastructure, without an institution,
without a budget, without a collection,
without a big public association. What to do
other than establish an initiative in cooperation
with a few local decision-makers?
KUNST+PROJEKTE Sindelfingen e. V.,
an awakening, 25 years of contemporary international
art in this city, with encouragement
from invited artists, pugnacious and
constructive, focusing on conceptual art and new media.
Projects in urban space and later
also with the municipal gallery with intensive
art-pedagogical access.
Each project almost always with three
generations of artists, as well as the
supplements to this compendium:

Franz Erhard Walther – Drawing for the
BOOK OF THE COMMON
, 2018

Thomas Ruff – Saturn, drawing 2017

Johannes Wald – Untitled (Forms in the Realm
of the Mind)
, 2018

(Edition of 100, signed, numbered)

BOOK OF THE COMMON

The Time Capsule, Twenty-Five Years of KUNST+PROJEKTE Sindelfingen e. V.,
is narrative, does not document the work in a linear way, but instead takes
a look at a variety of distinctive features, memories, notes, and the struggles of artists while working in Sindelfingen. Also included is the lively participation
of the daily press (Stuttgarter Zeitung, Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Sindelfinger Zeitung, Kreiszeitung Böblinger Bote).
Not a catalogue in the classical sense, but rather a collage, a book object consisting of various individual elements, able to be handled in an open and flexible manner.

BOOK OF THE COMMON is presented as a folding case containing four parts:

1 (left)
Eighteen DIN A5 booklets from the early years, 1989 – 2003,
with a monographic, theoretical orientation; one booklet per project;
haptic, colourful binding. Artistic impulses in a concise, montage-like flow:
selected texts, pictures, and press articles from the archive boxes.

2 (right)
Twelve DIN A1 posters / catalogue pages of the later years,
2004 – 16, one catalogue page for each exhibition,
in slit pockets of a foldout / leporello,
with English on the reverse side.
The large DIN A1 poster offers a composite view and
discourse of the different art positions of the international artists.

3 (folder)
A »poetic« little book of letters with journal entries, analyses,
interviews, aphorisms, et cetera that did not fit in the booklets and catalogue pages,
but echo an underlying mood of the BOOK OF THE COMMON,
appear in a loose, nonchronological sequence.

4 (folder with artist editions)
Franz Erhard Walther – Drawing for the BOOK OF THE COMMON, 2018,
Thomas Ruff – Saturn, drawing 2017,
Johannes Wald – Untitled (Forms in the Realm of the Mind), 2018

(Edition of 100, signed, numbered)
